The Marion Record is awful hot because Senator Ingalls advised the Indians on the Cherokee strip to not take less than $10 per acre for their land when the government is only offering $1.25. It thinks the Kansas delegation should quit monkeying for special interests and pay more attention to the agricultural and manufacturing interest of the State—Kansas City, Kan. Gazette.

That’s exactly what the Record thinks. It also thinks it is time for the newspapers of Kansas to quit slobbering over its public men for the sake of having “influence” with them. Journalistic sycophancy has become absolutely nauseating in Kansas. Give public men credit when they do right. Candidly criticize them when they do wrong. That’s business.

The finest valentine received by anybody in town was received by Charley Brooker—a girl.

Charley Thompson was in Chicago when the news came that the World’s Fair had been voted to that city, and he says he never saw as crazy a lot of people in his life. And drunkenness! To illustrate, it was facetiously said that the Major announced that every man found sober after eight o’clock at night would be arrested and that there was not a single arrest made!
