Neighbor W.H. Dudley brought us over a gallon of strawberries the other day which takes the cake (strawberry short cake). Twenty of them filled a quart measure. Eastern people wouldn’t believe it if we told them how large they were.
Mr. T.B. Matlock and Miss Pattie Davis were married at the residence of the bride’s parents, Dr. and Mrs. T.T. Davis of this city, last Monday evening.
The County Commissioners let the contract to Mr. H.C. Kable, Wednesday, for the construction of the new jail. The contract price is $4900. The new building is to be erected on the southeast corner of the court house grounds and is to be a model home for the jailer and his prisoners. Of course, Henry will do a good job.
Plans are on foot for extensive improvements of Chingawasa, Marion’s health resort. It is proposed to double the capacity of the hotel. The Rock Island has already made a rate of one fare for the round trip from Wichita during the season. John Carter is figuring on taking charge of the hotel. Altogether is looks as if the resort would vault to the front in great shape this summer.
