The Alliance picnic next Wednesday will doubtless draw a large crowd to town. Mrs. Todd and Judge Doster will be the orators.

Gen. John McCarty, the boss auctioneer of Central Kansas, won new laurels at the great Hannaford sale of fine horses last Saturday. His fame as a general auctioneer was already established, but in this special sale of pedigreed stock which required knowledge as well as tact of a peculiar kind, he proved himself equal to the emergency and won new fame. The horses sold well.

Reuben Bates left yesterday for West Virginia to learn the machine business. He is a good boy and the well wishes of all Marion attend him.

The largest company gathered in Marion in years to witness a marriage ceremony assembled at the home of Mr. John Aumann last evening to witness the nuptials of Mr. John J. Smith and Miss Lucy Aumann. The groom has long been a popular teacher in the city schools and is a splendid young man. His bride is one of Marion’s fairest and most esteemed young ladies. In the midst of the festivities, the Marion Cornet Band appeared and discoursed sweet music.

Roger Hannaford left Wednesday for Elk City where he takes a position in a bank. The bank is to be congratulated for Roger is a very worthy and competent young man.
