Ex-Governor Geo. T. Anthony has accepted an invitation to address the people of Marion County, at Marion, at the Republican Rally on Saturday, October 10th. He will speak in Central Park at 1:30 p.m. Let members of all the other parties come and hear “the other side.”

Miss Katie Hauser, who had been keeping house for her brother George, died at the latter’s home on Main street last Saturday. She had been sick but a short time. She was an excellent young lady, aged nineteen, and will be sadly missed.

John Lucas arrived from Pueblo Monday to help plaster the new jail. John looks exceedingly well.

J.S. Dean and Dave and Bert Wheeler arrived from Oklahoma, Monday, on ponies, after a ride of four hundred miles. They made expenses on the trip and had lots of fun “to boot.”

Probably the most genuine surprise party ever perpetrated in Marion was “worked up” by A.E. Case and wife—Mr. and Mrs. S.P. Bown being the victims. Time, last Tuesday evening. The affair was in honor of the tenth anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Bown’s marriage. “Steve” was in the country, and when he arrived at home about nine o’clock, the house was swarming with the surprisers. Mrs. Bown was no less surprised. Indeed, she was inveigled into helping Mrs. Case prepare some of the refreshments for the occasion under the pretext that they were for the “tea” the following evening. Altogether, it was a very pleasant affair.
