1860s folk festival planned

A jam session Friday night, a banjo clinic and fiddle workshop Saturday, a Victorian dance Saturday night, and historical craft demonstrations Sunday are planned this weekend in downtown Cottonwood Falls.

The main event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday in the free, 17th annual Flint Hills Folk Life Festival will be presenters in period dress demonstrating skills necessary for life on the prairie in the 1860s.

Included will be blacksmithy, masonry, weaving, rope making, spinning, crocheting, yarn dying, quilting, butter churning, and making homemade root beer, kettle corn, and ice cream.

Saturday’s events will include a banjo clinic at 10 a.m. and a fiddle workshop at 5 p.m.

A separate Victorian dance is planned for 7:30 p.m. Saturday and a jam session is planned for 7:30 p.m. Friday on the courthouse lawn. More information is available by calling (620) 273-6053 or by emailing prairie-maid@sbcglobal.net.
