Commissioner Larry Loomis commented at Monday’s meeting of the city commission that Marion Municipal Building now looks much better since the stone has been cleaned. A firm from Topeka did the work.

Centre homecoming candidates for king and queen are Elaine Svoboda, Kim Nickel, Janet Kristek, JoEllen Vinduska, Todd Bevan, Kent Remmers, Jeff Bina, and Kirk Wyatt. Crowning ceremonies will precede Friday night’s game against Sedgwick.

Named as “Warriors of the Week” at Marion High School are cross-country runner Greg Tice, son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Tice, freshman volleyball player Joey Kramer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gene Kramer, and Larry McLain, son of Mr. and Mrs. Larry McLain, football warrior of the week.

Marion County Treasurer Kathryn Schimpf was sworn into office for another four-year term Tuesday morning by County Clerk Marquetta Eilerts. Although Schmipf was elected in last November’s general election, her term did not expire until this October.

There will be a community picnic at Durham Oct. 13 at the community center. Those attending are to bring a basket dinner and table service. Drink will be furnished.
