Vandals let the air out of 20 tires in the school bus parking lot at Marion High School sometime during the weekend. Don Bezdek, director of transportation, said some of the tires were slashed while others had the valve stems partially removed.

The giant Canada goose is now showing signs of making a faster comeback than expected in the ponds of the Flint Hills. Through a four-year project, the Kansas Fish and Game Commission has bred and transplanted the geese that were nearing extinction.

A Florence native who is attending Bethel College will be taking a field trip to Central America during January. Kathryn Hayes said she will join a class on a 22-day journey to Belize and Guatemala in order to study tropical biology and primitive cultures. A 1983 MHS graduate, Hayes is majoring in biology and chemistry at the college in North Newton.

The major prize, a bicycle, went to Jesse Bowers Saturday in the final event of the annual Chamber of Commerce selection of toys. Other major winners were Keri Richmond, sled, and Andy Crofoot, wagon. All children present received at least one prize. Those whose names were not drawn were awarded special prizes, toys constructed by Art Holmes and donated to the annual event.

Kim Buethe, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Don Buethe of rural Lincolnville, a K-State Ambassador, is currently meeting with area high school students. Ambassadors are especially selected to meet with students and explain various programs offered in agriculture at KSU.
