Central Park will be filled with artists again Aug. 10. It will be the seventh annual “Art in the Park” event sponsored by Marion Chamber of Commerce Tourism Committee.

The Marion Chamber of Commerce honored Ern Hett Friday noon with a presentation of a framed photograph of the metal sculpture he made to represent Kansas. Hett was named “Kansas Artist of the Year” earlier this summer.

Marion Peacemakers will sponsor a display of more than 300 segments of the Kansas Peace Ribbon Saturday in downtown Marion. The ribbon will be on display from 9 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. and will be wrapped around the Jackson Building at Main and Third streets.

For the past 10 years, Viola Kelsey has been quilling paper designs to border framed wedding invitations or poems. The hobby earns her some money, but mostly she quills to keep busy.

Marion’s Senior Babe Ruth baseball team finished its season with a 10-3 record — good enough for second place in the Cottonwood Valley League. Chase County took first place.

Produce Derby entries this week include big tomatoes grown by Earl and Alvina Hoffman of Marion. They are the beefsteak variety of tomatoes and weigh a pound each.
