In spite of foggy weather, 410 men turned out Monday evening to enjoy charcoaled steaks at the Marion Chamber of Commerce’s annual Farm-City Week stag dinner. The crew in charge of charcoaling the steaks was Bob Raleigh, Roger Hannaford III, and Steve Tonn.
Turkeys in Marion have no fear of ending up on a holiday table. Protected by city ordinance, they roam the woods near Luta Creek and come up into residents’ back yards where they roost in trees and sometimes block traffic.
Jean Case’s fifth grade at Marion Elementary School presented a patriotic program Thursday on American history and the Statue of Liberty. Students pictured portraying characters include Theron Nienstedt, Keith Ottensmeier, Leon Richmond, Lesley Sieger, Charlie Helmer, and Scott Dalrymple.
August W. Schoneman, well known retired Marion businessman, died Tuesday. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the Christian church.
Channel 3-TV was in Tampa Monday to film its principal tourist attraction of the season — milo piled in the street.
Marion High School’s boys’ basketball team will have returning starters seniors Trent Richmond and Mike Bina. Junior David Hett also is a returning letterman. Other seniors on the squad are Carl Abbott, Brian Dannenfelser, Kevin Burkholder, Craig Mueller, and Troy Thrasher.
