Workers recently started construction of two large metal buildings in Marion. Western Associates and Marion County are having the structures built to provide additional storage and services.

Members of the “Singing Grannies” entertained senior citizens at Marion Senior Center during a Kansas Day celebration. The pioneer-garbed musicians were Ellen Darrow, Gladys Pfizenmaier, Lydia Batt, Ruby Linnens, Leah Stenzel, Alice Davies, Dorothy Snelling, Peggy Behrendt, and Shirley Bowers.

Students and cheerleaders at Marion High School dressed up as punk rock musicians and performed lip-sync antics to stereo music during a recent pep rally. The “band” consisted of Dale Heidebrecht on the guitar, Wade Thrasher as singer, and Steve Challacombe on drums.

David Spachek of Lincolnville was one of 16 students at Kansas State University who participated recently in a special study tour of London, England. The trip was sponsored by the KSU history department.

Pupils at Marion Elementary School donned western duds to celebrate Kansas Day and National School Lunch Week. Teacher Pat Waner is pictured as she serves third grade cowgirls Jodi Smith, Tammi Stephens, and Laura Hanes.

There were several small celebrations held in Marion last week commemorating the state’s 125th birthday.
