A contingent of Marion County officials joined civic leaders from the region in Cottonwood Falls Feb. 5 to urge state officials to improve U.S. 50 highway. Their pleas for wider roads and more enforcement by the Kansas Highway Patrol did not gain any immediate results, but was seen as a good start to improvements.

Candidates for Queen of Courts at Marion High School will be selected this week to reign over the homecoming game against Garden Plain on Saturday. Vying for the honor are Stacey Long, Kelley Enos, and Tracey Long.

A painting depicting historical homes and a poster showing city points of interest will be included on a billboard to be installed this spring at the new Moses Shane Park in Florence. Local artist Gary Thrasher painted the mural.

Bill Meyer, editor of the Marion County Record was elected, Monday, as first vice president of the William Allen White Foundation trustees. The foundation is associated with The KU School of Journalism, which bears the late Emporia editor’s name.

Chat and Dine Club of Marion County Lake will entertain members of Marion Chamber of Commerce March 1 at Marion Senior Center. The meal will be served at 6:30 p.m., followed by a program featuring The Aulne Boys vocal quartet.

The 80th birthday of Mrs. Earl Hett will be celebrated Feb. 23 with a family dinner and a card shower.
