City of Marion commissioners approved the sale on Monday of two power-generating engines from the city’s former electric plant. The city will net $25,000 from the sale of the two engines.

Students at Marion Elementary School spent last week without heat while the boiler at the school was shut down. Several tubes in the boiler were leaking and being repaired.

The Marion County Record was notified this week that it has again been designated a “National Blue Ribbon Newspaper” by the National Newspaper Association. The newspaper is one of only a few in Kansas to be so designated.

Lauren and Orvell Brunner of Ramona are among six 1985 Kansas Master Farmer-Master Homemaking couples to be honored March 14 at a banquet at Kansas State University. The program honors outstanding farm couples for excellence in farming, farm living, and rural citizenship.

Librarian Norma Riggs is pictured on the front page demonstrating a microfilm viewer that contains the titles of all books shelved in public libraries in the state. Marion City Library recently was given the viewer and catalog box of microfilm slides by the North Central Kansas Library System. This will allow millions of book titles listed on microfilm to be made available to local readers through the Interlibrary Loan System.
