Two major highway improvement projects are scheduled to start this week. The first project is the widening of U.S. 56/77 between K-150 and Lincolnville. The other is the relocation of 14 miles of U.S. 56 around Marion and Hillsboro.
After a complaint was made to the city commission about people who park across sidewalks, commissioners said police officers will issue warning tickets to those who block sidewalks, asking that the walks be kept clear for pedestrians.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Burkholder hosted a party at their home May 25 in honor of the graduation of their son, Kevin, from Marion High School.

The Marion High School Class of 1971 held a reunion in Central Park May 24, marking 15 years since graduation. They also agreed to hold another reunion, marking 20 years, during Old Settlers’ Day weekend of 1991.
Mary Elizabeth Holub, daughter of Theo and Dora Holub of Pilsen, was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps on Thursday at the courthouse.
Centre High School senior trackster Kirk Wyatt set a record Saturday of 22 feet 11.25 inches when he won the boys’ Class 2A long jump title Saturday during the state track meet at Wichita State University.
Jim and Kaye Darrow, Traci and Michael hosted a family Care Bear birthday party at the Pizza Hut Thursday in honor of David Darrow’s fifth birthday.
