Broken branches and electrical outages swept Marion County Thursday night and Friday in the wake of a devastating ice storm, that knocked out power for more than 16 hours in some towns and left city crews with more than three weeks’ worth of cleanup ahead.

Clarence and Winnie Conyers will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary Dec. 29 with a reception at Eastmoor United Methodist Church.

Members of the board of education of Marion School District met Thursday morning at Florence. With all seven members present, they voted unanimously to deed several buildings to the Florence Historical Society. Included were the former Florence district elementary school, the former Florence High School, and the domestic science/boiler room building.

Marion County and other area students were among the 1,041 who received degrees at the end of the fall semester at Kansas State University, Manhattan. Included were A.H. “Casey” Case and Melinda Gravenstein, both of Marion.
