A page-wide story in the Bonn, West Germany edition of Stars and Stripes carried a “Marion, Kan. (UPI) dateline and caught the eye of Jan Smith, who lives in Bonn and is daughter of Ann Rathert of Marion. The story originated in the Marion County Record on Oct. 3 and was about Wencel Vlk, who lives two doors from Jan’s family home on North Cedar in Marion. The story told about Vlk’s unusual business of raising rodents that he sells to distributors who retail them to zoos, laboratories, schools, and pet shops.

Marion High School’s Queen of Courts is Leann Snelling. Leann’s escort was Mike Kelsey. Little attendants were Tyler Jantz and Morgan Hett.

Frank Boyle, one of Marion County’s most respected and liked Kansas Highway Patrol troopers, hung up his hat Friday as he finished 25½-year career with the patrol.

Lynn’s Farm Equipment received national recognition at a four-day business meeting held Feb. 7 to 10 on Marco Island, Florida. The firm achieved the highest level of excellence attainable by an International Harvester agricultural equipment dealership. Jim and Judy Christensen represented the dealership at the meeting.
