Fifth District Republicans held their annual Lincoln Day rally Saturday at Hillsboro. State Representative Duane Goossen presided over the banquet at Tabor College. The Rev. Forrest Robinson portrayed Abraham Lincoln, Attorney General Bob Stephan delivered a eulogy to Lincoln, and Congressman Bob Whittaker gave a brief legislative report.

A tornado alert drill will be held Tuesday morning. Communities all over Kansas will be involved. The exercise is an effort to make the public aware of the dangers of tornadoes.

Angie Helmer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gary Helmer of rural Hillsboro, set a new KU record this weekend in the 600-yard run at the Big Eight Conference 1985 indoor track and field championships at Lincoln, Neb.

Phil Hanes of Florence took the top honor Tuesday at the Marion County Spelling Bee. B.J. Boyles of Hillsboro was runner-up. Hanes, son of Mr. and Mrs. R.M. Hanes, will compete at the state contest April 13 in Topeka.
