A new 24-unit apartment complex for Marion will be located on the hill, at the east end of Main Street, immediately south of Hilltop Manor. Construction is expected to start in September.

A contract naming John Burke, 33, as new superintendent of Marion Unified School District was approved by unanimous vote of the board of education Monday night. He replaces Darryl Woodson, who will enter private business at Garden City.

Four girls from Marion are among the 11 from the Flint Hills Girl Scout Council attending “Our Cabana” this week in Mexico. They are Kelley and Kristi Enos, April Ogden, and Amy White.

Msgr. Tonne celebrated 53 years as a priest June 10. The Catholic Workman recently ran an excellent review and announcement of Tonne’s latest book, “Jokes Priests Can Tell, Vol. 2.”

Rainfall amounts of five to six inches in a 12-hour period June 3 and 4 caused an estimated $2.5 million in damages in Marion, Chase, and Morris counties. Damages were to crops, fences, highways, railroads, land, and farmsteads.
