Volunteers from Valley United Methodist Church unpacked boxes and categorized hundreds of cans of food last Wednesday at the Marion County Emergency Food Bank located at the church. The food had been collected at the SRS offices in Marion. Representatives from all churches in the county agreed to store the food in an unused room at Valley church. It will now be the distribution point of the food bank operation.

Navy Fireman Michael J. Kerns, son of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Kerns of Marion, has graduated from the basic hull maintenance technical school. A 1982 graduate of Marion High School, he joined the Navy in February.

Al Bernhardt was handicap winner at Marion Country Club’s Fourth of July tournament. First flight winner was Jack Webb; second flight, Chris Costello; and third flight, Gene Winkler.

Marion County 4-H’ers will travel to Washington County, Kentucky, next week on a reciprocation exchange trip that started in July 1984 when nine Kentucky 4-H’ers visited Marion. Those going will be Robin Summervill, Jill Thole, Calvin Hett, Denise Sellers, Pam Bevan, James and Robert McDonald, Sherilynn Goossen, Jon Meier, Mary Margaret Mills, Tana Hedstrom, and Beth Gaines.

Olivier DePercenaire, a 17-year-old from Lille, France, is staying with Val and Julie Klenda for four weeks. DePercenaire traveled to America with hundreds of other European youths through Nacel Cultural Exchanges, an organization that sponsors youth trips every year.
