Owners of a Marion manufacturing company asked the Marion County Commission on Monday to consider giving tax breaks for expanding businesses. John Crofoot and Roger Hoffman of Marion Die and Fixture Builders, Inc. suggested the county establish a tax incentive policy to boost the economic development of existing businesses as well as newly established ones. Commissioners said they could not give tax breaks until the county receives the necessary operating funds from another source.

Members of the Marion City Squares square dance club enjoyed a Christmas dinner Dec. 5 at Butch’s Diner in Tampa. Hosts were officers of the club.

Dan Kinning was elected president of Marion County Peace Officers’ Association and named “Officer of the Year” at Thursday’s meeting of the association.

Swing Singers from MHS entertained the chamber of commerce and senior citizens Friday during the chamber’s meeting. Richard Bell led the group with Mary Mills providing accompaniment.
