Area economic forecasts received a big boost with announcement this week that a full-line sales and service agency for John Deere farm equipment will be established at Marion. John Crofoot, chairman of the city and Marion Chamber of Commerce industrial development commission, negotiated with the investors and was instrumental in the proceedings.
A large crowd of scouts and spectators watched the Cub Scout Pinewood Derby Monday at the American Legion hall. Winners of the race for the home-built cars were Dustin Gaffney, first, Corey Darrow, second, and Nathan Hoffman, third.
Jim Coe, a native of Marion, has been named to the board of directors of the United Way at El Dorado.
An effort is underway to obtain a “911” emergency telephone service in Marion County. Ambulance director JoAnn Knak is researching the costs involved in providing the service.
Maxine Robinson, who started making music at the First Christian Church in Florence in 1928, is featured as this week’s organist who provides music in an area church.
Candidates for “Queens of Courts” of Marion High School are Cerece Smith, Jill Thole, and Joan Vinduska. The queen will be crowned Feb. 6 during the homecoming basketball game in Warriors’ gym.
