A group of students from Berlin, West Germany, watched Monday as the Marion County Commission handled routine business matters. Members of the group, staying with Marion families for several days, are with Paper Press, a youth exchange program.

During the Marion Chamber of Commerce’s monthly meeting on Thursday, membership chairman Alex Case reported the chamber has 92 paid members.

Martha Kae Beaston, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack V. Beaston of Marion, and Charles Anthony Heigert, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry S. Heigert of Paxico, exchanged double ring wedding vows April 4 at Valley United Methodist Church.

Mike Ottensmeier, Marion High School junior, will attend a cadet law enforcement academy this summer taught by the Kansas Highway Patrol. Ottensmeier will be one of 50 youngsters from around the state to attend the academy at Salina.

Corky Siebert, blind organist who plays at two local Catholic churches is featured in this week’s organist series. Siebert, 36, has a natural talent for music and has had no formal training. He has been blind from birth.

Centre High School junior Kelli Kroupa has been selected to represent Gilbert-Poppe American Legion Auxiliary at Sunflower Girls’ State June 7 to 14.
