Marion Die and Fixture Builders, Inc. held an open house Saturday to show off its new 10,800 square foot building on West Main Street. Company president Roger Hoffman and employees pointed out features of the modern office and large machine shop to a crowd of visitors.

Governor Mike Hayden has named five students from Marion County high schools to the 1987 Governors’ Scholars honors list. They will be recognized May 3 during a luncheon at Cedar Crest, the governor’s mansion in Topeka. Those to be honored are Diane Vantuyl of Marion High School, Jennifer Hanschu of Centre, Janelle Arnett, Peabody, Karen Epp, Hillsboro, and Daren Schmidt, Goessel.

Mickey Costello was guest of honor April 18 at a shower hosted by a number of her friends at the home of Melissa Robinson. Co-hostesses were Margi Harris, Lorraine McGahee, Loreen Hett, and Shawn Geis.

Birth announcements this week include that of Brady Wade, son of Stan and Donna May, born April 27 at St. Luke Hospital.

Students in the third grade at Marion Elementary School held an invention contest as part of their science studies. Ethan Good and Trisha Elder were first in the class and Rachel Mulvenon and Jamie Groening were second.

Sharon Kerns of Hillsboro has been hired to play the organ three Sundays each month at Marion Presbyterian Church. She is the featured musician in the week’s Organist Series.

A come and go grocery shower will be held for Kodi Sader, bride-elect of Randy Kelsey, on Sunday at Trinity parish hall in Ramona.
