Kathryn Schimpf, who retired after 22 years as county treasurer, was honored with a retirement party Thursday at Marion County Courthouse.

Ramona, Durham, and Tampa, which were founded along the Santa Fe Trail and the railroad, are celebrating their centennials this year.

Members of the Frank Tajchman family seem inclined to have twins. Son Charles has a fraternal boy and girl while daughter Georgene Byram has identical girls. Daughter Judy Smith recently gave birth to fraternal twin boys.

The birth of four babies is announced in this issue. They are John Ryan Bailey, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Bailey of Englewood, Colo.; Nathan George Brunner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Brunner of High Ridge, Mo.; Matthew David Holland, son of Dr. and Mrs. David Holland Jr. of Wichita; and Kendra Shae, daughter of Jamie and Rudy Nicely of Marion.

Dean Pippin, State Farm Insurance Companies agent at Marion, has been named to the Legion of Honor, one of the firm’s most distinguished accomplishments. Pippin has been the State Farm agent in Marion since 1972.

Kay Lynn Summervill won first place and Natalie Thies placed second in a poster contest sponsored by the Marion County Board of Realtors. Contest coordinator Jeri Kruse presented awards to the two fourth-graders at Marion Elementary School.

Donna Seifert is this week’s subject of the Organist Series. Seifert began playing the piano as a seventh grader at Sunday school and church services at Strassburg Baptist Church.
