Two neighboring towns, Tampa and Ramona, will celebrate their centennials this weekend with big festivals. The public is invited to attend the festivals, which will be held in the town parks and along their main streets.

City of Marion commissioners met Monday afternoon and approved a contract to erect a metal building to be located in Central Park. The building will be used by the caretaker for machinery storage.

Several in the area have just returned from a week-long tour to Michigan and other points of interested. The tourists included Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Darrow and Ezra and Kathryn Schimpf of Marion, Mr. and Mrs. Leander Loewen of Hillsboro, and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Huntley of Florence.

Former Secretary of State Jack Brier will be the guest speaker Sunday during graduation ceremonies for Marion High School seniors.

Marie Obee is featured this week in the Record’s weekly “organist series.” Obee took lessons in 1959 and has been playing the organ at the United Methodist Church in Burns since that time. She alternates Sundays with organist Sandra Heyman and pianist Delores Morgan.

David Hett and Diane Vantuyl were given awards Thursday during the annual sports banquet at the Marion High School gym. Hett won the top senior boy athlete and most inspirational boys’ basketball awards. Vantuyl was voted most inspirational members of the girls’ basketball team.
