The wheat harvest in Marion County shifted into high gear Monday as grain elevator operators reported their first busy day. An estimated 50,000 bushels were delivered Monday to Cooperative Grain and Supply in Marion, reported branch manager Bob Oller.

Construction has begun on a new car wash on the corner of Third and Water streets.

Gerald Wiens, naturalist at the Chaplin Nature Center in Arkansas City, presented a program June 10 at the Valley United Methodist Women’s family night program. Wiens showed his photographs of Yellowstone National Park.

Col. Laura Jane Bredemeier of Salinas, Calif., is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herb Bredemeier, other relatives and friends.

Stephanie Summerville, 17, of Valley United Methodist Church left Tuesday to visit eight western cities on the annual Mission Education Tour for girls. The trip is provided by the Western Conference of United Methodist Women.

Surplus desks were among the many items offered for sale Monday and Tuesday by Marion school district. Many “under utilized” items were sold. Remaining items after the sale will be donated to charity or hauled to the dump.

Pastor Steve Vetter has answered the call to minister to the congregation of Strassburg Baptist Church, northwest of Marion near the federal lake. He is a recent graduate of North American Baptist Seminary at Sioux Falls, S.D.
