The town of Durham is celebrating its 100 years of history this weekend with a 3-day centennial festival. Former resident Martha “Pat” Vogt and her daughter, Christina, have compiled a history entitled “Pride in the Past, Faith in the Future” which can be purchased during the celebration.

City of Marion commissioners approved the purchase of 20 two-way walkie talkie radios for the fire department Monday afternoon. The bid price of $10,171.74 included the 20 radios, a base station with tone-alert features, 20 portable chargers, and 40 ni-cad batteries for the units.

A crane and other specialized equipment were needed Friday to unload a large crate at Marion Die and Fixture Builders Inc., on West Main Street. The wooden box contained a huge machining center, which weighs 39,900 pounds. The computer-operated tool will be used to contour large machine parts, said company president Roger Hoffman.

Pam Bredemeier, Diana Costello, Debbie Buchholz, Sadie Bernhardt and Eula Colle, members of Marion Country Club, participated in a golf tournament July 9 in Hillsboro. Sadie Bernhardt shot a 48 and won first place in the third flight.
