Marion Lions Club received its charter Saturday night during a ceremony at Eastmoor United Methodist Church. The church hall was crowded as several hundred Lions and wives attended the banquet.

A long list of activities is planned this weekend during Marion’s annual Harvest. Marion Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring two water sports shows and a dance with free admission to all. Many other activities are planned.

Sheri Bina, a high jumper, has been invited to take part in the National Junior Olympics in Syracuse, N.Y.

Five students from Marion High School were among those attending a yearbook staff camp at Bethany College in Lindsborg July 29 to 31. Those attending were Carol Laue, Christine Laue, Mary Margaret Mills, Denise Meierhoff, and Alison Ogden.

James “Bones” Ownbey is the new owner of an antique furniture restoration shop in downtown Florence. The veteran carpenter has purchased the business formerly owned by Galen Carpenter

Members of the Marion 9-12 girls’ softball team took second at the Lincolnville tourney July 18-19. Team members include Jodi Smith, KayLynn Summervill, Jenny Groening, Allison Ford, Catie Varenhorst, Samantha Rothman, Kris Groening, Tammy Johnson, Traci Darrow, Sherry Lange, and Ashley Loomis.
