The renovated “little fountain” in Central Park was installed this past weekend just in time for Marion’s “Art in the Park.” John Brose, Harvey Sanders, and Bill Wray are pictured on the front page as they install the antique fountain back on its base. A ceremony to rededicate the fountain will be held during the city’s Old Settlers’ Day observance.

Lori Lalouette, daughter of Leslie and Marilyn Lalouette of Florence, has been selected for membership in The Society of Distinguished American High School Student. Lori is a junior at Marion High School.

A bolt of lightning struck St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church at Pilsen Monday night during a thunderstorm. Msgr. Arthur Tonne reported 55 bricks and 20 roof tiles were knocked to the ground by the blast.

Three new teachers, Peggy Kleiber, and Gay Wheeler, have joined the staff at Marion High School this year. New teachers at Marion Elementary School are Ruth Lowden, Norma Mohn, and Crys Commerford.

Theme of this year’s Old Settlers’ Day is “Our Heritage.” The 76th annual historic festival and reunion will be held Sept. 26. Special attractions will include the Santa Fe Railway exhibit car and the Old Abilene Gunfighters. The railway car is filled with historical exhibits and will be parked all day at The Depot. The Old Abilene Gunfighters will re-enact shootouts like in the old West, according to Roger Hannaford III, OSD chairman.
