The 76th annual Old Settlers’ Day parade, held Saturday, was one of the longest in recent years. The procession down Main Street contained more than 80 registered entrants. An estimate of 9,000 watched the hour-long parade.

Mark W. Heidebrecht, D.D.S. is purchasing the practice of longtime dentist E.K. Schroeder of Marion.

Former students and patrons at Sunflower School enjoyed a basket dinner Sunday in the backyards of the Glen and Harold Conyers families.

Lori Harris, formerly of Marion, was named the state’s top female bodybuilder Saturday during competition in Wichita. The 27-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gerry Harris of Marion won the 1987 Kansas Bodybuilding Championship at Century II Concert Hall.

Robin Summervill was crowned FFA sweetheart Friday during half-time ceremonies at the Marion High School football game.

Roger “Bud” Hannaford and Larry Reiswig are pictured as they present a “first dollar of clear profit” certificate to Jim Goetz, president of Marion Zoological, Inc. and owner of the company, which develops and produces feeds for exotic birds and animals.

Veteran fireman Merle Bruner has been appointed by the city commission to be the new fire chief, effective Nov. 1.
