Owners of the new Gambino’s Pizza Parlor franchise in Marion are not newcomers to Marion County. They are Francis and Mary Jirak of the Tampa community. The business, that occupies one of Marion’s attractive old stone buildings, formerly was a bakery. It was constructed in 1879. The Jiraks have hired Terry Klenda of the Pilsen community as manager.

Ebenfeld community farmer Leon Suderman was elected chairman of the Marion County Commission when that body met Monday in the courthouse. He succeeds Charles DeForest of Peabody who has been chairman during the past year.

Stuart Meador is the new laboratory supervisor at St. Luke Hospital. He began working at the hospital Dec. 21.

Phil Hanes, a junior at Marion High School, has been hired to cover sports for the Marion County Record.

Once in a great while, we hear of Siamese twin babies being born. But, have you ever heard of Siamese twin Angus calves being born? That happened today for June Herzet with the help of Dr. Mike Moore. The calves were heifers, joined at the shoulder. They lived for a short time.

Printed on the front page of this issue is the story of how the airplane, that at one time stood on the MHS grounds, was placed there. Col. F.E. Hollar (USMC Ret.), son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hollar, wrote the story shortly before his recent death.
