Chamber of Commerce ambassadors Jim Chamberland and Dick Varenhorst welcomed to the business community this week Mary Jirak, manager of Gambino’s pizza restaurant, and Valerie Smith Waner, who operates Valerie’s Hair Affair. During the same period, Larry Loomis and Bud Hannaford presented a First Dollar of Profit plaque to Frances Wynn, who has franchised Jaconi’s Pizza Parlor from owners, Jack and Coila Edson.

The State Department of Transportation has requested the removal of the flashing light at the intersection of Stadium Road and U.S. 56, as it no longer complies with state regulations.

A group of Class of 1943 Marion High School graduates gathered at Kingfisher’s Inn Thursday evening to welcome back to Marion a former classmate and his wife, Ralph and Wanda Johnston.

Velma Krause of Lincolnville received acknowledgment this week that the Bethel School, 5.5 miles east of Lincolnville, has been entered onto the National Register of Historic Places. Dr. Nancy Groneman of the Emporia State University faculty, and a native of the Bethel community, conducted a great deal of research on the project.

New uniforms, shirt and pants, are being considered for city employees. The city would pay the original cost and the workers would be responsible for upkeep.
