Officials and business leaders from Marion and Hillsboro gathered at the C & M Restaurant in Marion Friday morning to plan the dedication ceremonies and public opening of US-56 Highway.
After 44 years, Kenneth Robinson of Florence receives two long overdue awards for service in World War II, the French Croix de Guerre, twice awarded, and the Fourragere. “They are just a couple of pieces of cloth and metal, and they’re 44 years late,” Robinson said, “but they mean a lot to me.”
Michele Bina, bride-elect of Doug Regnier, was guest of honor May 15 at a pottery bridal shower at Eastmoor United Methodist Church. Hostesses were Shirley Carlson, Marge Christensen, Donna Fruechting, Virginia Heerey, Jean Miesse and Suzanne Thole.
Sunday marked the dedication of the addition to Emmanuel Baptist Church. The area consists of a nursery, classrooms, kitchen, study/office and restrooms. Groundbreaking for the addition was at the end of March 1987.
Parent Advisory Council members sponsored a carnival for Marion schoolchildren Saturday night. PAC spokesman Teresa Higgins estimates from 500-600 parents and children attended.
Florence Middle School has announced the new cheerleading squad for football and volleyball next year. They are Ashley Loomis, head cheerleader, Amy Christensen, Tammy Johnson, Tonya Heslet, Danielle Longhofer, and Renee Goodin.
