City of Marion commissioners voted a pay increase for commission positions when they met Tuesday. Each of the three positions pays $100 per month. At the final vote, the mayor will be paid $200 per month and commissioners $150 per month, effective June 1.

Patriotism was in style as the color guard and firing squad marched through the Avenue of Flags at Marion Cemetery. Flags are displayed each year as a community service project of Marion’s American Legion Post. The colors were carried by men of that post and the county VFW post headquartered in Marion.

Henry and Ethel Collett will observe their 60th wedding anniversary June 2 and celebrated it Memorial Day weekend by having a family reunion at Camp Wood, near Elmdale.

Members of Jean Case’s fifth grade class at Marion Elementary School celebrated the end of school with a traditional Hawaiian luau. Students constructed the decorations themselves and ate coconut and pineapple.

The former O’Dell’s Grocery in Florence has been sold to Rick and Vickie Turner, grocers at Buhler, and reopened Tuesday as Florence Market.

Twenty-five antique cars passed through the Aulne community Monday afternoon as the Horseless Carriage Regional Chapter of Wichita drove to The Copper Shed for their Memorial Day outing. The Ern Hetts estimated 60 people were on the tour.
