Saturday’s 77th annual Old Settlers’ Day parade had more than 100 entries, about 20 more than last year. More than 1,000 persons participated in the parade. And there were nearly 50 horses with riders. Rube Band members played “Show Boy” again this year, marching out-of-step and cutting-up all along the way. Lucille Britain played the antique street drum once owned by famous Marion black musician, Carl Skillen. Pictured as they recalled the days of their youth while visiting in Central Park were Harold McKibbin of Wichita, Clinton “Butch” Seifert of Russell, Leland Seifert of Missouri, and Byron McCarty of Florence.

Bob and Alice Campbell of Prairie Village announce the engagement of their niece, Pamela Sue Connor of Wichita to Mark Richard Jones of Marion. The couple will be married Nov. 19 in St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, Pilsen.

Wedding anniversaries reported in this issue were those of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Unruh of Marion, 50th, Mr. and Mrs. Herb Wullschleger, Marion, 60th, and Mr. and Mrs. Gus Lueker, Herington, 50th.

Dorothy Gilbert of Marion likes country music entertainer Merle Haggard. She also likes making quilts. She gets the chance to combine the two Sunday when she meets Haggard in Oklahoma City and presents him with a quilt bearing his music.
