A crowd estimated at more than 2,000 was in Pilsen Saturday and Sunday for the community’s centennial celebration. A realistic model of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church was one of 50 entries in the parade Sunday afternoon.

Marionites were a bit startled Oct. 4 at the sight of 30 mainland Chinese bicycling down Main Street. They were cycling across the United States and stopped in Marion for lunch. Most of their lunch came from cans and packages purchased from local stores.

In celebration of their 40th wedding anniversary, Fred and Edith Helmer will be honored with an open house Saturday afternoon at Eastmoor United Methodist Church.

Kingfisher’s Inn was named as a recommended restaurant in the September issue of the KPL Gas Service corporate magazine. Included in the “Let’s Do Lunch” series, the Marion County Lake restaurant was recommended by Robert Brenzikofer of Florence, an employee of KPL.

Girl Staters Robin Summervill of Marion and Shelly Bruner of Florence recently reported on their experiences at Sunflower Girls’ State during June when they appeared before their sponsoring unit, the Hillsboro American Legion Auxiliary, at a recent covered dish dinner at the post home in Hillsboro.
