Republican George Bush carried Marion County, Tuesday, just as he won nationally.

Dawn Study Club members celebrated the 90th anniversary of the club on Friday with a luncheon at Kingfisher’s Inn. The club was organized Sept. 8, 1898. The seven active present members in attendance were Lillian Pierce, Ada Fruechting, Dorothy Hayen, Rozella Bateman, Bertha Hobein, Ruth Hiebert, and Faye Russell.

The MHS Lady Warriors placed third in the 3A state meet Saturday at Manhattan. Team members are Brenda Bina, Melanie Kraus, Amy Raleigh, Angie Bina, Iris Shanklin, and Terry Helmer. Nickie Swift is manager.

Marion Fire Department’s new tanker was badly damaged in an accident Nov. 1 while returning from a rural fire. Two volunteer firemen were injured. Jim Davis received a severe head injury, and assistant fire chief Mike Regnier was treated for minor cuts and bruises.

The annual soup/sandwich lunch will be served Veterans Day at Ecker-Fulkerson-Slifer #6958 VFW post home.

Arsenic and Old Lace cast and crew are preparing for productions Friday and Saturday in Marion Municipal Auditorium. Marion High School student actors Michele Griffith, Phil Hanes, and Shelly Moore are pictured as they get ready to attend another funeral for one of the “poor misfits” the sisters have “helped out of their misery.”
