The greatest news of the week is that we had rain Sunday night.

Six candidates are running for Marion Unified School District’s board of education. They are Marc Williamson, Martha Krispense, Roger Williams, Don Stenzel, Don Kraus, and Roger Hiebert.

Genette Bolte has been selected by the Marion High School faculty as “Student of the Month” for March. A senior, after graduation she plans to enter college or join the Navy. Genette is the daughter of Johnny and Cathy Bolte of Marion.

Jerry and Micki Siebert of rural Marion were among those who participated in a March 6-9 lobby mission to Washington, D.C., for the Kansas Farm Bureau. They presented previously signed petitions to members of Congress that call for a balanced federal budget and spending restraint with no new taxes.

An Easter egg hunt will be held Saturday at Marion Manor nursing home with all children 2 to 10 invited to participate. Prizes will be awarded. In case of bad weather, the hunt will be held indoors.

Marion FFA members Mike Meisinger, Neil Hett, and Calvin Hett placed first individually in the ag power and machinery division at the South Central Agriculture Mechanics contest March 11.
