A prairie monument is proposed in the Flint Hills. If all agree, the historic 10,980 acre Z-Bar Ranch at the north edge of Strong City would become the Flint Hills National Monument. The ranch has a historic three-story barn, a majestic ranch house, smoke house, three-hole’r privy, springhouse, and a nearby public school. All are of 1880s native stone construction.

A dozen young people from the Tempelhof area of Berlin, West Germany, came to Marion Saturday and will remain here for a week.

Jessica Tajchman of Lincolnville received an award for academic excellence at Kansas State University where she is a junior in animal sciences and industry. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Tajchman.

The home of Magdalen Dvorak was destroyed in a fire March 28. The home was a total loss.

Florence Market has a new grocer. It was announced this week that half interest in the popular Affiliated Foods store has been purchased by Greg Carlson of Marion. The sale was completed Monday and Carlson has taken over as manager of the store. Carlson, who has spent the past eight years working at Dave’s IGA in Marion, said he wanted to do something different, and work for himself.
