Nine journalists from Caribbean nations visited the newspaper office in Marion Thursday, participating in a United States Information Agency tour supervised by the University of Kansas. They visited Marion to study the role of a community newspaper.

Three Marion students participated in Junior Olympics’ sub-state competition Saturday. John Wheeler, Caren Wildin, and Glenn Krispense, all top three finalists, qualified for state competition in Junction City June 16-17.

About 100 bicycle riders will spend the night of Aug. 2 in Marion, as part of the Santa Fe Trail Bike Tour.

Kathryn Hayes of Florence, a graduate of Marion High School, is one of 51 University of Kansas medical students who began clinical training May 8 at KU School of Medicine in Wichita. She has completed two years at the KU School of Medicine in Kansas City and will complete the final two years toward the MD degree at Wichita.

The golden anniversary of Happy Hustlers 4-H Club will be observed Sunday at an open house at Marion Christian Church.

A 1989 graduate of Centre High School, John Stika, was named state Star Farmer at the FFA state convention in Manhattan this past week. He is the first Centre student ever to win the Star Farmer award
