Construction of an amphitheater in Central Park should begin this month, the Marion Arts Council announced Monday. The amphitheater will be for use by all community groups.

Tina Grutzmacher and Katrin Schlinke, both from West Germany, stopped by Marion June 28 for a brief visit. Both had lived in Marion as exchange students two years ago. They are traveling across the United States by car, heading for San Francisco, where they will work as au pairs—doing housekeeping chores in return for room and board. Pictured sharing a laugh with them are Christine Laue and Lorie and Sheri Plenert.

Nickolas Hett celebrated his third birthday at a family party given Friday by his parents, Aaron and Lanell Hett, in Marion‘s Central Park.

A reunion of the E.G. Westerhaus family was held in Olathe the weekend of June 23 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Doug Westerhaus, John, Jamie, and Jeffrey.

Earl and Alvina Hoffman are pictured as they submit a big cucumber, over a foot long, for entry in the Marion County Record produce derby.

The life story of the Rev. Gerald Pathe, pastor of St. Mark Catholic Church in Marion, is told in this issue. Pathe recently celebrated his 45th anniversary as a priest.
