Marion’s annual Harvest Moon Festival will feature water skiers, music, and a dance during its two-day run. Sponsored by the Marion Chamber of Commerce, festivities kick off Friday with a performance by the El Dorado freestyle water ski team at Marion County Lake.

The U.S. Senate passed legislation Aug. 2 to rename “Marion Lake” to “Marion Reservoir,” Sen. Bob Dole said Thursday.

Bicyclists following the Santa Fe Trail spent Aug. 2 in Marion. After an evening meal of barbecued beef, the bicyclists were treated to gospel music and polka dancing on the creek bank stage near Central Park.

A party was held July 29 honoring three birthdays—Simon Makovec’s fifth, Shaina Makovec’s second, and Jandi Makovec’s eighth.

Members of the board of directors of The Depot, Marion youth center, met Thursday to plan for the coming year.

James M. Loney Jr., retired Rock Island switchman and farmer, died July 27 at Boston, Mass., from a heart attack while attending a baseball game.

While Marion County Commissioners debate giving away Marion County Historical Museum, and Marion City Commissioners consider taking ownership, museum volunteer Phyllis Melton says things will continue, as is, until decisions are made.
