A community-wide auction to benefit Marion Community Day Care is scheduled for Sept. 7 with Roger Hiebert as auctioneer. The sale of donated items can help raise funds needed now for operating the day care centers in Marion.

The 40th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Popp was celebrated Aug. 19 at a family dinner in the fellowship hall of Emmanuel Baptist Church. The dinner was hosted by their children Joanne and David Loewen and John Popp.

Eureka High School was accepted into the Cottonwood Valley League at a meeting held Thursday at Salina. CVL members are Marion, Eureka, Herington, Sacred Heart (Salina), Chase County, and Council Grove.

Jennifer Thole is pictured wearing a jacket she received as a member of the Collegiate Wind Band on a trip to Europe this summer. Made up of students from throughout the United States, the band was in Europe for three weeks. Jennifer was selected after Marion band director Mike Connell submitted her name.

The harvest hog roast and street dance sponsored by Tampa State Bank will be held Saturday on the Main Street of Tampa.

Births announced this week include those of Sarah Laine, daughter of Mark and Cindy Neff of Lawrence, Aug. 16; Jeffrey Travis son of Jeri and Travis Hett of Marion, Aug. 17; and Caleb Don, son of Steve and Lisa Wistuba of Olathe, Aug. 20.
