Class reunions have become more and more important portions of the annual Old Settlers’ Day festival. Those who have indicated they plan to hold a reunion this OSD are the following: Class of 1929, 1937, 1939, 1949, 1959, 1974, and 1979.

Descendants of Mabel and Bert McCullough held their eighth family reunion Aug. 20 to 27 in Lincoln City, Oregon. There were about 80 relatives in attendance including Bud, Lavonne, and Norma Hannaford, Gayle, Mike, Adam, and Ryan Thomas, and Roger III, Sally, and Scott Hannaford of Marion.

Miss Kansas Angus Queen Leslie Hedstrom participated in activities at the 1989 Kansas State Fair during the past week. Leslie is from Lost Springs and is a student at Centre High School. She plans to attend Kansas State University next year.

The 40th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Goentzel was celebrated Sunday with a surprise pig roast at the John Goentzel home. Many friends and relatives attended.

Pearl F. Watts and John T. Clausen, both of Peabody, were married Sept. 17 at the home of the groom’s sister, Mrs. Gene Heath. The Rev. Dean Rose of Valley United Methodist Church officiated at the double ring ceremony.

Robert S. “Bob” Edmunds, a native Marionite who knows local sports lore and history from personal observation over half a century, has agreed to write a weekly sports column for the Marion County Record.
