The city of Marion accepted a $45,839 bid Monday for a new fire station, and will offer a contract to Jost Construction Co., Marion. The 40x85x14-foot structure will house all fire equipment and vehicles. They will roll out of five 12x12-foot doors.

Marion High School’s homecoming ceremonies will be at halftime of Friday’s game against Little River. Queen candidates are Tara Abbott, Kristy Herbel, and Jennifer Thole. King candidates are Calvin Hett, Alan Kruse, and Chris Smith.

Glenn Krispense was selected by Marion High School faculty members as the September Student of the Month. Glenn is the son of Steve and Martha Krispense, rural Marion.

Doug Nygren of Wichita is pictured dumping a net-full of channel cat, wipers, and walleye into Luta Creek. The fish were removed from the spillway pond at Marion Reservoir and brought to Marion Sept. 27. An estimated 150 to 200 people were on hand for the seining of the spillway. Some were there to watch, but many, buckets in hand, were ready to get free fish.

Marion High school football has been gaining attention across the state, according to Marion Ogden. An article in the Sept. 15 Wichita Eagle focused on the two-day football game with Remington. Stormy weather and lighting problems spread the game, though Marion finally won, 34-20.
