City of Marion commissioners spent most of their time Monday afternoon considering a proposal to provide a full-time employee who would be in charge of industrial development and the promotion of tourism for the community.

The Marion High School Lady Warriors volleyball team won their first-ever sub-state championship Saturday in Hillsboro. Team members are Melissa Ramsey, Denise Meierhoff, Merri Greene, Lori Tice, Tara Abbott, Nicki Swift, Tamara Stenzel, Steph Burkholder, Kristy Herbel, Iris Shanklin, Lorie Plenert, Traci Darrow, and Jennifer Hanson.

Marion Chamber of Commerce ambassadors Larry Reiswig and Alex Case are pictures presenting Loretta Stinchcomb with a first dollar of profit plaque for Secondhand Prose, located at 201 E. Main. The bookstore sells and trades used paperback and hardback books of all kinds.

The Depot, Marion-Florence youth center, will sponsor Halloween parties Friday and Saturday nights.

Students from Marion High School attending Business Career Day at Emporia State University Oct. 11 were Laurie Tajchman, Angie Gooding, Amy Raleigh, Margo Fredrickson, Chris Heslet, Carri Hajek, Lorie Plenert, Nicki Swift, Eric Steward, Stephanie Ehlers, Calvin Hett, and June Makovec. The students were accompanied by sponsor Helen Reznicek.
