City of Marion commissioners announced Monday that the project to install gaslights alongside the nature trail in Central Park has been fully subscribed by donors.

A new parish hall will be erected on the east side of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Marion. Shown breaking ground for the new structure are Richard Johnson, Pastor John Ryding, Robert Matz, Ray Koegeboehn, Calvin Ridgeway, John Brewer, Dorothy Hayward, Jack Applegate, Lois Johnson, Dwight Gooding, and Steve Tonn.

Jo and Gary Hett hosted a party Wednesday honoring the fourth birthday of their son, Jared. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. Royal Smith, Jandee and Pat Moore, Ashlee and Amber, and Jared’s brother, Jason.

Chase County defeated Marion 20-0 Thursday night to win the Cottonwood Valley League championship and a berth in the state playoffs. Next year could be tough for the Warriors. They lose 10 seniors, Chris Smith, Mike Helmer, Alan Kruse, Dean Snelling, Dirk Kannady, Jason Allison, Calvin Hett, Ed Harris, James Olsen, and Phil Humphries.

Damion Schinnerer and Amanda Fruechting were first place winners at Bown-Corby in the “October is Co-Op Month” coloring contest. MES winner was Shannon Hoffer.

Chamber of Commerce ambassadors are pictured giving a first dollar of clear profit to Karen Miles, owner of Unique Designs.
