Jost Construction Co. started erection work Monday on the new Marion fire station. Concrete pad and driveways had been built several weeks ago. The building is to be completed by Jan. 1 and work is right on schedule.

Marion High School graduate Richard “Dick” Wiebe has been assigned by his firm to work on the huge super collider project in Texas. The super collider will be a high energy particle accelerator 54 miles in circumference and constructed in a tunnel 150 to 200 feet below ground surface. Wiebe will be involved in surface planning of 9,000 acres.

Katrina M. Swan, daughter of Paul and Kathy Swan of Marion, has been selected for listing in the latest edition of Outstanding High School Students of America.

Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus were a busy couple Sunday afternoon, greeting scores of youngsters who visited Santa’s House in the downtown business district. The children were treated with goodies supplied by Marion merchants, and each visitor also received a handmade wooden toy donated by Art Holmes of Marion. Holmes makes toys throughout the year, donating them to children. At Christmas time, he is especially busy.

Marion High School’s girls’ basketball team has been picked to finish third in the state by The Wichita Eagle.
