An open house will be held March 3 at the new Marion Fire Department fire station on Fifth Street.

More than 100 patrons were present for the Board of Education meeting Monday night, presenting a petition with names of nearly 600 persons who protested a previous decision not to extend Superintendent John Burke’s contract. The Board extended the contract following five executive sessions, and Burke announced he will leave the district after one more year.

Tamara Stenzel and James Olsen were named King and Queen of Courts on Friday during halftime festivities at Marion Gymnasium.

Fourteen Marion High School band members have been named to the 1990 Cottonwood Valley League Honor Band. They are Chris Stinchcomb, Marty Teufel, Neil Clay, Kris Groening, Brenda Bina, Jennifer Thole, Steph Burkholder, Kristy Herbel, William Teufel, Ashley Loomis, Shannon Connell, Angie Bina, Jason Martens, and Glenn Krispense.

Scott Alexander, area manager for Martin-Marietta Aggregates, is pictured as he accepts a “first dollar of profit” plaque from Marion Chamber of Commerce ambassadors Matt Classen and Alex Case.

Sheldon Bina, a junior at Marion High School, was selected by the faculty as Student of the Month for February. Sheldon is the son of Martin and Sandy Bina of Marion.
