A two-story house purchased by Marion Unified School District sold for $3,400 at public auction Saturday. Scott Miesse was the higher of two bidders. The house, formerly owned by Gerry Harris, came with the lot which the district purchased in February.

Residents in the Marion telephone exchange can now take advantage of the 24-hour-a-day 911 emergency phone number. It went online Monday.

Gene Bowers, PAC representative for Bown Corby/Marion Elementary Schools, is pictured as he hands out T-shirts to Kelley Hett, Gabrielle Longhofer, Jenny Groening, and Travis Creamer. The children were finalists in an elementary T-shirt design contest.

“Beary Special Babies” born at St. Luke Hospital during the month of February are Ronnie Dean Bennefeld, Nathan Kelly Bishop, and Lauren Elizabeth Helmer.

Pandemonium reigned Friday at Bown Corby Elementary School when Smokey the Bear arrived for a visit. The well-known bruin, provided by the U.S. Forestry Service, was in town in honor of Marion’s new fire station which was dedicated on Saturday.

Marion Chamber of Commerce ambassadors presented a first dollar of profit to Marty Fredrickson and Jerry Ewing, owners of Carpets Plus, a carpet and upholstery cleaning service in Marion.
