County Commissioner Leon Suderman of the Ebenfeld community southeast of Hillsboro has been recognized and honored by the Kansas Rural Water Association for his many years of service to Marion County Rural Water District 4.

Kansas State University president Jon Wefald will be guest speaker Monday at the Kiwanis-sponsored annual honor banquet at St. Mark’s Activity Center. The event honors outstanding academic students at Marion High School.

Engagements announced in this issue include those of Tami Renee Ottensmeier and Jeff Alan Williams, Wanda Ruth Hett and George Andrew Coe, Cheryl Spohn and David Silhan, and Ernestine Sly and Bentley Pywell.

Alesha Tajchman, daughter of Charles and Kay Tajchman, celebrated her 11th birthday Friday evening when she invited friends to her home for a slumber party. Guests were Jenny Maggard, Courtney Goering, and Molly Hanes. The girls enjoyed an outing to Wichita on Saturday with Alesha’s mother.

Five Marion area youngsters participated with more than 1,200 wrestlers in the Kansas Wrestling Championships in Salina this weekend. Local boys competing were Chuck Bina, Jim Helmer, Ryan Bina, Matt Helmer, James Bina, and Chris Helmer.

The new organ at Marion Christian Church, a memorial to the late Josephine Dwelle, will be dedicated Sunday at a concert by Roseann Penner Kaufman, a native of Hillsboro.
